 Badger Books (electronic poll books)

The Town of Middleton debuted electronic poll books (Badger Books) at the 2023 February Spring Primary (February 21, 2023).

The system makes the check-in process completely electronic and quicker for the voter. This means no more splitting the lines by last name!

The Badger Book is only an electronic version of the paper poll book and as such, performs only those functions. It is used to check in voters, process Election Day Registrations (EDRs) per Wis. Stat. 6.79(2)(c), and record absentee participation.  Badger Books are not connected to the internet.

Poll workers can check-in voters by typing in the voter’s last name or scan the voter's driver license bar code.  Once their name and photo ID are verified, the screen is flipped around to the voter, which allows them another opportunity to make sure their information is correct, and they sign the screen with a stylus pen. If the voter’s address is in a different municipality or polling place, the system instantly provides their correct polling place information that they can be re-directed to.

 Curbside Voting

If you cannot enter the polling place or absentee voting location due to a disability, curbside voting is available.  There are parking stalls with signage allocated for curbside voting at the Town Hall and West Middleton Lutheran Church (polling places).  You may also contact the Town Clerk at (608) 833-5887 beforehand to discuss an arrival time and what you should do when you get to the voting location.

During in-person absentee voting call the number on the sign in the designated parking stall at the Town Hall and the Town Clerk or Deputy Clerk will assist you with voting.

On Election Day two poll workers will bring you your  ballot and conduct voting at your vehicle or at the polling place entrance.  If you vote curbside, you are not required to sign the poll list.  Instead, the poll workers will write “exempt by order of inspectors” in the signature space on the poll list.

If you vote curbside and need to update you voter registration due to an address or name change, or if you are not currently a registered voter, you may also register to vote curbside with a current and valid Proof of Residence document.
